Kingfish of a Lifetime off Canaveral

On Saturday July 21, Ty Thabit, a 12-year-old resident of Newport Beach, California, and his father, Cory, headed out on a half-day charter on the OFishal Business II a 32-foot Stuart Angler out of Cape Marina in Port Canaveral, Florida, with Captain Alex Sorice.

After an hour of live-bait fishing on 8A reef we had a double header. Ty’s father Cory was hooked up with a nice fish when the long bait took off and Ty was on with a fish of a lifetime.

The fish made a long run and went completely around the boat. Roughly 10 minutes later Ty’s fish came to the side of the boat and was in the box -- all 62.25 pounds of it!

Thirty minutes later Cory landed his fish, which was in the 30-pound range.
