Here we are again nearing the end of August with another good month of fishing. The Tuna bite has been very good the past couple of weeks. It has been good , but fast. If you weren’t in the right spot first thing in the morning with the right bait then you were going to be working the rest of the day to catch a few more. The bite has been early and not lasting very long but well worth it when you can hit it just right. Most of the fish have been in the 50-60lb. range but there have been a few over 100lbs. so the bigger fish are out there. As we move into the September-October time frame the tuna fishing should only get better and the avg. size will more than likely go up as well. Not only have the tuna been biting but of course since Amberjack season opened on Aug. 1 it has been very easy to go and catch a nice limit of Jacks just about every trip out. Sharks have been somewhat of a nuisance while Jack fishing, but when you get past them or find an area with no sharks, it is easy pickings. Cobia made a very good showing the first couple of weeks in August but since the west wind picked up it has made it a little tougher to get out there and target them. September and October are our two best months for Cobia so I am definitely looking forward to that. Capt. Alex has been catching plenty of Warsaw grouper the past couple of months. They aren’t the easiest fish to catch but he has been able to catch one just about every trip out over the past couple of weeks. The largest so far was right at 100lbs. and they will definitely put a smile on any anglers face. So if you want to catch a Warsaw grouper Capt. Alex is definitely on them right now. Over the next couple of months we will mainly be targeting Yellow Fin Tuna. There will be a big mix of black fin in there as well as the occasional Mahi Mahi. Although this year wasn’t the best I have seen for Mahi, we will probably catch a few more thru the fall. Amberjack, Cobia, and Wahoo will be targeted as well for those who would want to add those species to their catch. We do have a fair amount of open days in September so if your looking to get offshore and catch some fish it is a great time of the year to go.
