Finally, some great weather, and on a holiday weekend. Old Ma Nature must be getting soft.

A fair amount of boats got out over the weekend, with not great results. Some bass and some bluefish. Surprisingly the head boats using diamond jigs seemed to be doing better than the charterboats. The water temperature is still in the mid-fifties, so there should still be fish to come

Everybody is looking forward to the herring run, but so far there is no sign of anything on the horizon, although there is a lot of bait around.

Now that there are some boats getting out I’m hearing about the changes the storm made to the bottom structure. It seems that most of the rips were adjusted somewhat, in most cases being sanded off a bit to be more of a plateau than a sharp ridge. In some cases smaller rips being gone completely.

The local Surfmasters contest is still going on, but there have been no changes in the standings. The last couple of years there were few contenders caught after November 1 and it will probably be the same this year.
